Teaching Philosophy

Does This Look Familiar?

I like to keep things simple. The grip and stance (setup) are critical for golf. The golf swing’s ultimate goal is to deliver the clubface to the ball square to the target line at a high rate of speed. My approach is establishing a baseline of grip (neutral) and stance (square to the target line) and then letting ball flight dictate needed adjustments. Everyone’s body is different. We all move in different ways and have different physical abilities and limitations. Golf is not a one size fits all proposition. By establishing a baseline and then making needed adjustments, the student’s individual, natural swing will come through!

Improvement, unfortunately, is not something that happens overnight. The truth is that the student may see a regression in their scores in the beginning. There is no “tip” that will cure all ailments. Finding and refining your personal, natural swing is a process that takes time, practice, and commitment. Over time, improvement, and a lot of it, will occur. We’ve all heard, “Practice makes perfect.” I could not disagree more! Practice makes permanent. Improvement is a pipe dream if you are practicing the wrong things and fighting what your body wants to do naturally. It would be more accurate to say, “Perfect practice makes perfect!” While I would never claim perfection, the student must have a trained set of eyes watching, teaching, and coaching if real improvement is to occur.

Call me, drop me an email, or schedule a lesson. I’m always happy to talk golf!
